The finished size of this bear crochet baby blanket is 28.5” x 28.5” (72 x 72 cm) approximately.

In part one of this tutorial, I’ll show you how to crochet the teddy bear square, how to make the snout and embroider the little nose and eyes. You will make 13 of the teddy bear squares for your blanket.

To make your crochet squares you will be working in the round. You can start your work by either:
1. Making a magic circle or
2. Chain 4, then slip stitch to the first chain to form a circle.

IMPORTANT: If you choose method 1, make sure that you securely weave in the yarn tail to ensure that the middle of your square does not unravel.

To join my squares, I used the flat slip stitch seam. You can see the tutorial here:

This is an easy crochet tutorial and as long as you know how to work the following stitches, you will have no problem in making up this bear crochet baby blanket :
ch(s) – chain(s)
dc – double crochet
dc2tog – double crochet two together (also known as a dc decrease)
EXdc- Extended Double Crochet (I’ll explain this stitch in the tutorial – it’s very easy!)
hdc – half double crochet
sc – single crochet
sl st – slip stitch
st(s) – stitch(es)

MATERIALS USED (AFFILIATE LINKS):
?Yarn: #3 (fine) / DK / 8 ply. I used Hobbii Rainbow Cotton 8/6: 2 balls in the colour beige (004); 7 balls in the colour baby blue (032); 1 ball in the colour white (001). To embroider the nose and eyes you’ll need some scrap worsted / aran weight yarn in the colour black.
?SUBSTITUTE YARN: #3 (fine) / DK / 8 ply. I’ve also made this blanket using Paintbox Yarns Cotton DK; 7 balls in the colour Summer Sky Blue (463); 1 ball in the colour Paper White (401); 2 balls in the colour Light Caramel (409)
To embroider the nose and eyes you’ll need some scrap yarn from 1 ball of Paintbox Yarns Cotton Aran in the colour Pure Black (602)

?Yarn needle
?Blocking mats
